City commemorates World Aids Day at Pelican Park Clinic

The City’s Health Department continued the World Aids Day commemoration with an awareness drive at the Pelican Park Clinic yesterday, 5 December. The event focused on this year’s theme, ‘Equal Rights, Equal Access’, which aims to make residents aware that they have access to preventative and treatment programmes.
This year also marks 20 years since the roll-out of antiretroviral treatment in the public sector, and the progress made in the fight against HIV/Aids.
‘Awareness drives not only helps us understand AIDS and HIV, but with that knowledge come the tools to reduce transmission, ending the stigma and discrimination, improving our quality of life and also celebrating the strides that have been made on this front. Speak to our health staff at our clinics about how to protect yourself and your loved ones. By working together, we can ensure everyone has the resources they need to stay healthy,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia van der Ross.
